On International Day for the Abolition of Slavery (December 2), Djamila Ribeiro held the launch of Where We Stand at the UN Bookstore in New York. The website of the international organization highlighted the date, emphasizing the relevance of the Brazilian philosopher in the fight for the dignity of Black people.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the UN Bookstore in New York, Brazilian Djamila Ribeiro hosted a book signing session for her new book, Where We Stand, recently published by Yale University in the United States,\u201d the UN website stated, noting that for the United Nations, December 2 symbolizes the quest to eradicate all forms of human subjugation, \u201cwhich include child labor and the forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflicts.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Instagram<\/a><\/strong>, Djamila celebrated her presence at the UN.<\/p>\n

“Today was a very special day: I was interviewed by the UN podcast about the English edition of Lugar de Fala, Where We Stand. As if this incredible opportunity wasn’t enough, the ONU bookstore acquired the book and asked me to autograph 50 copies! All articulated by the Abolition Day of Remembrance team, Jayashri Wyatt and Beatriz D’Alessandro, whom I thank for everything,\u201d Djamila wrote.<\/p>\n

She also reflected on her participation in other significant events at the United Nations headquarters.<\/p>\n

I’ve been to the UN headquarters a few times. Twice in 2016 I participated in side events talking about feminism. In 2023, however, it was special: I was the first Brazilian to be the keynote speaker on the Day of Remembrance for the Abolition of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, at the UN General Assembly, at the invitation of the President of the General Assembly, Csaba K\u00f3r\u00f6si.
