Portugal marked the closing chapter of Professor Djamila Ribeiro’s 2025 international tour. It was the end of a cycle of meetings and discussions that took her through European countries, as well as South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (with an online appearance).

And there was no better way to conclude this journey than with the launch of Cartas para minha avó. The event took place at Livraria da Travessa in Lisbon, to a full house and a long line of autograph seekers. “It was beautiful to end such a meaningful tour in Lisbon and to have so many people come to discuss my book at the charming Livraria da Travessa,” wrote the professor on her social media.

At the end of the autograph session, all copies had sold out. “We set a record attendance at the bookstore, and the signing line went all the way to the sidewalk! We sold out every copy!” she celebrated.

The Brazilian philosopher also thanked her editor Zeferino Coelho, a historic figure in Portuguese literature (seen next to Djamila in the photo illustrating this article). “Did I ever tell you he was Saramago’s editor?! He’s a dear friend that life gave me,” wrote Djamila, acknowledging the excellent work of the entire Editorial Caminho team, responsible for publishing her books in Portugal.

Djamila emphasized the affection from the audience and the opportunity to further amplify her work. “Every opportunity to share my work in Portugal fills me with joy. So, I thank dear Catarina Marques Rodrigues for the interview on her podcast Dona da Casa, from RTP; and Wilds Gomes for the warm interview on Bem-vindos RTP, from RTP África,” she celebrated.

The trip wrapped up an intense month. “There were so many gestures of affection; I feel deeply grateful. A month traveling through countries in Europe and Africa, with an online appearance in Abu Dhabi, and the certainty of planting seeds around the world. Gratitude!” she concluded.

Portugal marked the closing chapter of Professor Djamila Ribeiro’s 2025 international tour.
