Djamila Ribeiro announced the pre-sale of a new edition of Lugar de Fala (Where We Stand), a central work in her intellectual trajectory, now published by Rosa dos Tempos, an imprint of the Record group. The book was revised, updated, and expanded during her time as a lecturer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The announcement also formalizes a structural shift in the Brazilian publishing market, consolidating a new phase for the Coleção Feminismos Plurais (Feminismos Plurais Collection).

“Ten of the fourteen titles in the Black and independent collection will migrate to Record,” Djamila posted on social media.

The operation involved stock verification, rights negotiations, and complex legal structuring, bringing together dozens of professionals and law firms. The Brazilian philosopher highlighted the collective nature of this trajectory, stating that her partnership with Editora Jandaíra resulted in “14 books published, 8 translated, 500,000 copies sold and a political milestone in the Brazilian publishing market.”

This statement reflects not only significant figures, but also the consolidation of a project that repositioned Black authors at the center of contemporary intellectual production.

“First, I would like to acknowledge a woman with whom I built an unforgettable partnership. Lizandra Magon, thank you for the journey at Editora Jandaíra. We made history together,” she said.

Speaking about the transition, Djamila emphasized the importance of moving to “one of the largest publishing houses in the country — nationally owned and led by women.”

“I warmly acknowledge editor Livia Vianna, a woman who led a historic movement,” she celebrated.

The new edition of Lugar de Fala (Where We Stand) also expands its symbolic reach by including a foreword by Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and an introduction by artist and thinker Grada Kilomba, two international references in debates on race, gender, and coloniality. This choice reinforces the transnational dialogue the book has established, as it has been translated into five languages since its first publication.

This new phase of the Feminismos Plurais collection points to a long-term strategy: consolidating an editorial project that brings together academic production, accessibility, and political intervention in public debate.

The work is currently available for English-speaking audiences through Yale University Press: Where We Stand.
