To take the expanded edition of Lugar de Fala (Where We Stand – Yale University Press)<\/a><\/span><\/em> across Brazil, Djamila Ribeiro will begin a series of events in Rio de Janeiro on August 2. The tour will travel through several Brazilian capitals during the second half of the year. The lecture marks the beginning of a partnership with Alma Talks and celebrates the new edition of the book that was selected by Folha de S.Paulo<\/em> as one of the most important works of the 21st century.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first event will take place at Teatro Citt\u00e0, in Barra da Tijuca, starting at 7 p.m. During the lecture, the Brazilian philosopher will discuss race, gender, representation, knowledge production and the impact of social structures on everyday life\u2014topics that have shaped Lugar de Fala<\/em>\u00a0since its original publication.<\/p>\n

When announcing the initiative on social media, Djamila described the event as the beginning of a new chapter in her career.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be a historic evening, the beginning of a national tour unlike anything I have done before,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Originally published in 2017, Lugar de Fala<\/em> became one of the central works in contemporary Brazilian public debate by examining how social positions influence processes of listening, recognition and political participation. Over the years, the concept has moved beyond academic circles and become part of broader discussions on democracy, representation and social justice.<\/p>\n

Partnership with Alma Talks<\/h3>\n

The lecture revisits ideas that helped transform public debate in Brazil regarding representation, legitimacy of speech and knowledge production. It also expands the discussion to contemporary social and political challenges, addressing inequality, the historical exclusion of certain voices and different forms of participation in public life.<\/p>\n

The partnership with Alma Talks takes these discussions beyond the publishing world by promoting in-person meetings between the author and audiences from different regions of the country. The tour is expected to strengthen dialogue around the expanded edition of Lugar de Fala<\/em> and bring readers even closer to the reflections developed by one of Brazil\u2019s most influential contemporary intellectuals.<\/p>\n
