Djamila Ribeiro drew more than 1,000 people to the opening of the national Lugar de Fala tour, held on Sunday, August 2, at Teatro Citt\u00e0 in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. Presented in partnership with Alma Talks, the premiere featured a book signing, a presentation of the expanded edition and a conversation with the audience.<\/p>\n

Djamila also highlighted the energy in the room, thanking everyone who took part in the first step of this new chapter for Lugar de Fala.<\/p>\n

“And I want to thank everyone who bought a ticket and came to the theater to be part of this milestone in my career and in the journey of a book that has crossed so many barriers and continues to build bridges between different social locations. Since its original publication in 2017, the concept of lugar de fala<\/em> (place of speech) has moved beyond academia and entered political debates, television programs, schools, universities and social media. Its growing visibility has also led to interpretations that depart from Djamila’s original formulation, particularly when the term is used to prevent certain people from taking part in a discussion.<\/p>\n
