Students, parents, teachers, staff and administrators took all 200 seats at Conversa Viva: Lugar de Fala, a Sept. 3 session on lugar de fala, or place of speech, with Djamila Ribeiro at Escola Viva, a private school in the Vila Ol\u00edmpia district of S\u00e3o Paulo. “The entire amount raised at the event went to the school’s Racial Equity Fund, which supports scholarships for Black students, and to Espa\u00e7o Feminismos Plurais, the nonprofit I have the honor of chairing, which serves women in situations of social vulnerability in S\u00e3o Paulo,” Ribeiro said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Students attending on scholarships from the fund pitched in and ran a booth, with proceeds also going to the total raised.<\/p>\n

The program included sales of the expanded Brazilian edition of Lugar de Fala<\/em> (Rosa dos Tempos\/Grupo Editorial Record) and a signing that ran more than an hour:<\/p>\n

“I was very moved to see how far my work reaches those young people and that it’s being taught in their classes,” Ribeiro said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
