Djamila Ribeiro Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of “Where We Stand”

The Brazilian philosopher and writer marked the anniversary of the English edition of her acclaimed book Lugar de Fala on social media, reflecting on the international journey of the work and the impact of its core concept.

Djamila Ribeiro celebrates this month the first anniversary of Where We Stand, the English-language version of Lugar de Fala. Published by the prestigious Yale University Press, the book has been launched in several U.S. cities over the past twelve months, expanding its presence in universities and other debate spaces.

On Instagram, Djamila commemorated the milestone:

One year since the publication of Where We Stand. I’m grateful to my editor Abbie Storch and to Yale University Press for the opportunity. It brings me great joy to see the concept of Lugar de Fala reach the world! More events coming soon!“, announced the visiting professor of the esteemed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK Visiting Professors & Scholars Program) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Over the past year, Djamila has engaged with students and scholars at leading institutions such as Harvard, UCLA, among others, consolidating the importance of her work in global discussions on feminism, race, and power.

Where We Stand not only translates the words of Lugar de Fala but also brings to the forefront of the English-speaking academic debate a crucial concept for understanding the social dynamics of contemporary societies.
