After busy weeks of travel between the United States and Canada, Djamila Ribeiro returned to her activities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), celebrating the good weather in Cambridge:

“Intense last few weeks of work, but also full of good moments and encounters. Presentation of Where We Stand at two U.S. universities: Tufts and Brown. Trip to Montreal to take part in the Book Fair, with sold-out tickets, classes at MIT, end-of-semester events. And, finally, it seems spring has come to stay in Cambridge.”

Launches of Where We Stand

At Tufts University, Djamila took part in a conversation about the English-language edition of Lugar de Fala (Speaking Place) at the invitation of Isabela Fraga and Nathan Queiroz Benvenuto, from the Department of Portuguese. The event took place in early April at the Cabot Intercultural Center, in Medford. On LinkedIn, the Brazilian philosopher emphasized the importance of the dialogue as an opportunity to reflect with the community on “issues of power and identity.”

At Brown University, the book talk took place on May 1 at Stephen Robert 62 Hall, in Providence, organized by the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies. The program included a discussion and book signing. In a social media post, Djamila thanked Joyce Fernandes and Maria Frigotto for the invitation.

On its website, the institution presented Where We Stand — published by Yale University Press — as a work dedicated to “exploring how race, gender, and social position shape voice, power, and representation in contemporary society.”
