Djamila Ribeiro closed the 24th Salão do Livro do Piauí (Piauí Book Fair), in Teresina, in an edition that brought together more than 300,000 people over ten days of programming and marked her appointment as ambassador of the event. Held at Espaço Rosa dos Ventos, at Universidade Federal do Piauí (Federal University of Piauí), SaLiPi ended on Sunday, June 14, celebrated by UFPI as one of the largest editions in the fair’s history.

The Brazilian philosopher participated in the Seminário Língua Viva (Living Language Seminar) at the Auditório do Cine Teatro da UFPI (UFPI Cine Theater Auditorium). In a social media post, Djamila highlighted the packed auditorium, the audience’s affection and the symbolic force of the fair: “It is fair to say that SaLiPi is the São João of Literature,” she celebrated, summing up the place the fair holds in Piauí’s cultural calendar: a festival of encounters, reading, author circulation and audience formation.

Created in 2003 and organized by Fundação Quixote (Quixote Foundation), SaLiPi presents itself as an initiative in defense of books, reading and cultural democratization throughout Piauí. In addition to Djamila, the 2026 edition brought together names such as Itamar Vieira Junior, Raphael Montes, Aline Bei, Helena Duncan, Fernando Morais, among many others.

Her appointment as ambassador deepens Djamila’s relationship with an event that connects literature and education through a program open to the city. Her presence reinforces SaLiPi’s role as a space for critical formation.

By thanking Fundação Quixote and its president, Kássio Gomes, for the honor, Djamila emphasized the pride of being able to represent SaLiPi in Brazil and abroad. The announced commitment turns the tribute into continuity.

In the 2026 edition, the philosopher was one of the highlights of the final day of programming, with a large audience and a highly sought-after book-signing session.

“It was an honor to close the Salão do Livro do Piauí. A packed auditorium, so much love from the audience and sold-out books at what is one of Brazil’s most special literary events. Year after year, SaLiPi has outdone itself, and this year was the largest in its history,” she celebrated.

2027 honoree

The closing of SaLiPi was also marked by the announcement of José De Nicola as the honoree of the next edition. A recognized citizen of Piauí, the teacher and writer has a long career dedicated to the teaching of Portuguese language and literature, as well as a historic relationship with the state, having participated in projects to encourage reading and form readers even before SaLiPi was created.
