Djamila Ribeiro concludes her time as a visiting professor at NYU

This week, Djamila Ribeiro celebrated the conclusion of her time as a visiting professor at the Andrés Bello Chair at New York University (NYU). On her Instagram profile, the Brazilian philosopher highlighted the significance of the experience, marking her debut as a faculty member at a U.S. university and her first time living abroad.
“I still need to grade the papers, but the semester has come to an end. It was a remarkable and transformative experience,” she wrote.
Spotlight on Feminisms of the Global South
Teaching Feminisms of the Global South, Djamila introduced authors unfamiliar to most of her students. She emphasized the quality of their work: “I was deeply moved by the students’ feedback on the course and thrilled with their paper presentations. It felt wonderful to know I made a difference in the academic journey of many. What an incredible feeling!” she shared.
The course schedule also featured guest speakers who contributed to the topics discussed in the class.
“I would like to especially thank Ibram X. Kendi, Selma Dealdina, Alessandra Devulsky, Linda Alcoff, and Nadia Yala Kisukidi for participating in my public schedule and enriching this experience,” she noted.
Djamila also expressed her gratitude to Professors Jordana Meldenson and Dylon Robbins for their support and the opportunity to teach during the semester.
New Plans
With her formal academic activities concluded, the author plans to remain in New York for the holiday season, enjoying the city with “a heart full of gratitude.”
