On September 16 and 17, Djamila Ribeiro participated in the Macondo Literary Festival, held in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

“I’m here representing Brazil at this important literary festival and I’ll be taking part in two talks with writers from the African continent, one today, called ‘Let’s talk Africa’, and on Sunday I’ll have the honor of taking part in the closing table with South African writer Masande Ntshanga,” the philosopher wrote on her Instagram profile on the 15th.

She also thanked the Brazilian Embassy in Kenya for the invitation.

“I am grateful for the generosity and affection of the Brazilian Ambassador to Kenya, Silvio Albuquerque, who, as well as making it possible for me to come, warmly welcomed me to his official residence in Nairobi with his family, Ludmila and Luma. What a special day,” she said.

After the event, Djamila made a point of expressing her gratitude to the Kenyan people.

“The meeting with the Pan-African feminists, proposed by them, was wonderful. Learning about the movement in Nairobi and the important work they have been doing for Kenyan women. Inspiring!” said the Brazilian writer, adding: “If you ever ask me about my days in Nairobi, I’ll tell you: they were extremely happy days! Thank you, Nairobi, I’ll be back soon.
