Djamila Ribeiro will coordinate a book collection on decolonial feminisms
Last week, Djamila Ribeiro confirmed that she will lead the coordination of a new collection of works on feminisms.
“I am very happy to announce the new partnership with the Record group, through the Rosa dos Tempos publisher: the Global South Feminisms Collection,” highlighted the Brazilian philosopher on her Instagram profile.
The objective, according to Djamila, is to establish the important and necessary dialogue between feminists from various countries who have faced the consequences of colonialism over the centuries.
“There are many initiatives for exchange in this sense, and I am happy to be able to contribute to the dissemination of the thoughts of authors in Brazil,” she wrote.
Djamila will write the first book, which will bear the name of the Collection. The second title, ‘Dalit Feminism,’ will gather publications from authors in India who question the caste system of that country.
Since 2017, Djamila has been redefining the route of the publishing market, with the publication, in countries like France and Italy, of black Brazilian authors from different places and perspectives. She also participated in the publication of Colombian authors, such as Velia Vidal, and has been promoting launches of writers from independent publishers through the Plural Feminisms Space.
The philosopher also celebrated the partnership with publisher Livia Vianna from Record.
“I will be able to realize an old dream, at a large publisher and on an imprint that originally publishes women,” she highlighted.
The photos illustrating Djamila’s Instagram post show that the philosopher’s engagements with authors from the global south began a long time ago. In the images, there are striking records, such as the philosopher’s participation, in 2018, in the Angela Davis program for guest professors at Goethe University in Frankfurt.
“On that occasion, I gave a lecture on Global South Feminisms to the students of that university. Could it have been a premonition?” she commented.
Djamila also posted a photo of the keynote lecture she delivered at the already established Global South Colloquium at the Autonomous University of Mexico when she launched the Spanish edition of ‘Place of Speech,’ published by the partnership between Tumbalacasa publisher and the renowned Mexican university.
“In my travels around the world, I met many feminists from various African countries, Latin America, Asia. I am happy to be able to contribute to the amplification of some of those voices. My gratitude to dear Livia Vianna for the opportunity and partnership. Let’s continue writing and publishing our stories together!” she concluded.
The inaugural books of the Collection are expected to be released in 2024!
