July 3, 2024

Last weekend, Djamila Ribeiro participated in the NBO Litfest, a literary festival in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. On her Instagram profile, the Brazilian philosopher emphasized the importance of international connections and cultural exchange in the feminist and anti-racist struggle:

“Gratitude, Nairobi. I simply loved returning and, this time, participating in two panels within the NBO Litfest (@nbolitfest) program. Being able to dialogue about feminism with feminists from Kenya was enchanting, especially finding the similarities and alliances.”

Djamila also spoke about the audience’s anticipation for the publication of “Where We Stand,” the English version of “Lugar de Fala,” which will be released in August by Yale University Press: “Many people participating, eager for the publication of the English edition of Lugar de Fala, rich exchanges”; and thanked the NBO Litfest organization, the Brazilian ambassador to Nairobi, Silvio José Albuquerque e Silva, and the minister counselor of the Brazilian Embassy in Nairobi, Adriana Telles Ribeiro.

“Nairobi already resides in my heart. I return to Brazil with the certainty that it is just a ‘see you later’,” Djamila concluded.
